MIAMI – A female Pinecrest police officer accidentally shot Wednesday afternoon by another female officer at the Homestead Training Center has been released from the hospital.

It happened at around 2:30 p.m. at the center located in the 11700 block of SW 304th Street.

The Pinecrest Police Department said the officer was shot during a pre-schedule training exercise.

Police chief Jason Cohen said, “We have no reason to believe this was anything but an accident.”

The unidentified officer, who has been with the force for 4 years, was transported to Homestead Hospital and then flown via air rescue to Jackson South Medical Center South for treatment.

The officer, who was shot in the forearm, is said to be in stable condition.

“She’s in great condition. She’s going to be just fine. That’s the best news we could have.” added Cohen. “She’s in good spirits, surrounded by her family. Everyone is shaken up, but the good news is she’s going to be just fine.”

“We will evaluate the training, evaluate all the safety precautions and make sure this does not happen again,” said Cohen.

Authorities did not identify the officers involved.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the officer-involved shooting.
