DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team ranks No. 4 in the country in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey media polls that were released on Monday.
Denver moved down from its No. 3 ranking last week despite its 2-1 victory on Friday and 4-1 win on Saturday against Omaha at Magness Arena.
Wisconsin replaced Michigan’s No. 1 overall position on both ballots this week; the Wolverines dropped to No. 2. The Badgers earned 29-of-34 USA Hockey first-place votes and were picked as the top team in the country by 35-of-50 voters in the USCHO.com rankings.
Michigan State jumped ahead of DU to No. 4 while Western Michigan was at No. 5. Michigan and Michigan State both earned first-place votes in the two rankings, while Western Michigan was also listed atop the ballot by one USCHO.com voter.
The NCHC leads all conferences with four teams ranked in the top 10, while its five total squads in the polls are first in the USCHO.com and tied for first on the USA Hockey list with Hockey East.
Joining the Pios in the top 10 are fellow league-members Western Michigan at No. 5/5, Minnesota Duluth at No. T-6/7 and North Dakota at No. 10/10. Colorado College is just outside at No. 11/11. Miami and Arizona State also received votes in both polls, while St. Cloud State was listed on the ballot in the USA Hockey rankings.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers continue conference play this weekend as they travel to play the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday at 7 p.m. MT and Sunday at 12 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcast on NCHC.tv and regionally on Altitude Sports.
