The Detroit Pistons are set to acquire Miami Heat guard Duncan Robinson, adding a crucial sharpshooter to their roster after the departures of Dennis Schröder and Tim Hardaway Jr. via free agency, according to ESPN.

The Pistons will ink Robinson, 31, to a three-year, $48 million deal as part of a sign-and-trade with the Heat that sends forward Simone Fontecchio to Miami.

Following the pause in contract negotiations with guard Malik Beasley earlier this week due to an ongoing investigation of alleged gambling on the NBA, the Pistons were reportedly “weighing a run” at the former undrafted guard out of Michigan.

Robinson will get to reunite with former Michigan teammate Caris LeVert, who is set to sign a two-year deal with the Pistons.

This will be the first time Robinson will put on another NBA jersey, entering his eighth season in the league. He spent the first seven years with the Heat, taking on various roles as an impact shooter.

As a career 39.7% three-point shooter averaging 11.3 points across his career, he’ll bring some much-needed help with Schröder, Hardaway and Beasley — who combined to make 49.3% of threes for the Pistons last season — likely gone.

The Pistons were reportedly shopping Fontecchio around early this week, trying to get his expiring $8.3 million contract off the books.

Sending the 29-year-old forward to Miami in order to bring in Robinson seems like a good trade off with the forward depth the Pistons are building around their young talent.

After being acquired in a trade with the Utah Jazz, the Pistons got some solid minutes from the Italian to finish the 2023-2024 season. But he saw less of the court in 2024-2025 as the Pistons surged into the playoffs.

Fontecchio still played in 75 games, but averaged 16.5 minutes off the bench and scored 5.9 points per game on 40.2% shooting from the field.
