BANGOR, Maine — A plane carrying eight people crashed during takeoff from the Bangor International Airport, according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Records show the plane is registered to a Houston-based law firm.
The crash happened at Bangor International Airport around 7:45 p.m. Eastern and involved a Bombardier Challenger 650, which is a wide-bodied business jet configured for nine to 11 passengers, the FAA said in a statement.
The airport asked people to avoid the area in a social media post around 7:30 p.m. The airport is currently closed.
Officials did not share if anyone was injured in the crash.
“At approximately 7:45 p.m. there was an incident involving a single aircraft that was departing from BGR,” Bangor International Airport said in a news release. “First responders are still on scene and are expected to be actively working the site for several more hours before any additional information is available.”
The airport said another update would be available Monday morning.
The crash occurred as New England and much of the country grappled with a massive winter storm. Bangor had undergone steady snowfall Sunday along with many other parts of the country. It’s unclear what caused the crash and if weather was a factor.
According to a local meteorologist, at 7 p.m. Sunday in Bangor, it was about 2 degrees out and lightly snowing. Visibility was about 3/4 of a mile.
