With the Boston Celtics one win away from a record-setting 18th NBA championship, the city’s police department is taking precautions downtown even though the game is being played in Dallas. “There will be some road closures around TD Garden starting around halftime at the game just to make sure that everybody can have a safe time coming out to the game as well,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. Boston police said they plan to close Causeway Street from North Washington to Merrimack Street at halftime. Also at halftime, all feeder streets off Causeway to New Chardon Street will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. “There will also be no re-entry to any licensed premises within the secured area from halftime on,” police said. Canal Street was already subject to being closed to vehicles from 4 p.m. through midnight on game days, as part of the city’s Finals Hub. Thousands of fans are also expected to be inside a sold-out TD Garden for the team’s official watch party. “We have a full callout. All our officers actually working through the city throughout the entire day and evening,” said Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox. Should the Celtics win Game 4 and sweep the series, officials are asking fans to behave. “We want our Celtics to win but we also want to provide our folks as we celebrate responsibly if we happen to win today,” said Cox. “Should there be something huge to celebrate, we will be prepared and have huge announcements in the days ahead,” said Wu.
