(Daily Caller News Foundation) – New data from a poll conducted by AP-NORC shows that both black and Hispanic respondents are more likely to believe than white people that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs ultimately increase discrimination against minorities.

Under the Biden-Harris administration the U.S. saw a ramp up in DEI efforts, with policies put in place federally and millions spent on some of the programs. With Trump’s administration upending the efforts, major companies and universities have begun to follow suit.

Surveying 1,437 adults between July 10-14, the AP-NORC poll said that less than half of Americans believe DEI has benefits for the “people it’s intended to help,” according to PBS.

According to the data, roughly four in 10 black respondents and one-third of Hispanic respondents said that DEI increases discrimination against black people, as roughly one-quarter of white adults said the same. The poll reported a close split between white adults and black and Hispanic adults on the same question of discrimination against Hispanics, PBS reported.

For the white respondents, the poll data reported that most of them had been Democrats who believe DEI efforts reduce discrimination against blacks and Hispanics. In comparison, roughly only one-quarter of white independents and Republicans felt the same, according to PBS.

With only four in 10 adult respondents saying that DEI reduces discrimination against black people, only one-third said the same for Hispanics, women and Asians. Additionally, between 33% to 41% of respondents believe DEI doesn’t make a difference either way, with roughly one-quarter of those surveyed believing that DEI has increased discrimination against the groups.

Data from the poll also said that 45% of adults believe blacks face “high levels of discrimination,” dropping roughly 15 points from when 60% of respondents felt the same in 2021. Poll numbers similarly dropped in views of discrimination against Asians, falling from 45% in 2021 to the current survey finding of 32%.
