The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has some good news for frustrated weekend users of the Grove Street PATH station. Beginning this weekend, trains will be stopping in both directions.
In January, the bi-state agency began a rehabilitation project that required weekend Journal Square-bound and Newark-Penn Station-bound trains to bypass the station. In April, trains headed for New York were similarly affected.
The project is now done, ahead-of-schedule, says PANYNJ.
The rehabilitation work included replacing floor tiles, repainting, refinishing platform columns, and installing LED lighting and electrical wiring throughout the station.
The project was part of the Port Authority’s $440 million 2-year program known as the PATH Forward Program to renew and modernize the 116-year-old PATH system.
“With this weekend’s resumption of regular weekend service at PATH Grove St., New York-bound PATH customers will be able to ride directly into the city for this weekend and other weekends throughout the summer, including weekend events for the upcoming NYC Pride Parade on Sunday, June 30” said the the Port Authority in a press release.
