President Trump is demanding that an NFL franchise change its name on Sunday morning.
The President of the United States took to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Sunday morning. He is demanding that the Washington Commanders go through another name change. The Commanders first went away from the Washington Redskins in 2020, switching to the Washington Football Team. In 2022, the franchise announced it would be going by the Washington Commanders.
But President Trump is not a fan of this.

President Trump refused to refer to them by name, too.
“The Washington “Whatever’s” should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!” he wrote on social media.
The Cleveland Indians also changed their name a couple of years ago, switching to the Cleveland Guardians.
Clearly, President Trump is not a fan of either name change. However, both franchises have made it clear that the names will stick.
“I think it’s now being embraced by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff, so, we’re going with that,” Commanders owner Josh Harris said. “Now, in this building, the name Commanders means something. It’s about players who love football, are great at football, hit hard, mentally tough, great teammates. It’s really meaningful that that name is growing in meaning.”
