The Shippensburg University field hockey team will face Newberry in the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship Game at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Bloomsburg’s Steph Pettit Stadium.
Shippensburg (19-3) and Newberry (20-0) are tied at No. 2 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll.
SHIP in the NCAA Tournament:
• Shippensburg is in the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in school history (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024. 2025).
* Shippensburg is 20-13 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has won five NCAA Division II national titles (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021).
* Shippensburg is 5-2 all-time in the NCAA Championship Game. Its two losses came in 2010 (1-0 to Mass-Lowell) and in 2022 (1-0 to East Stroudsburg).
* SU has won six total national championships – the team’s first national championship in school history was the 1979 AIAW Division III national championship (16-2-3 season with a school-record 14 shutouts).
* Shippensburg was the last undefeated national champion, going 20-0 in 2021. Newberry is seeking to become the latest team to achieve the feat.
Facing Newberry:
* This is the just the second meeting ever between Shippensburg and Newberry. The Raiders won a home game over the Wolves early in the 2022 regular season, 5-2.
Stiff Competition:
* This season, Shippensburg is 13-3 against nationally-ranked opponents. Sixteen of the team’s 22 matches (73 percent) have been against teams ranked at the time in the NFHCA Top 10 poll.
* Since the start of the 2024 season, Shippensburg is 24-4 against nationally-ranked opponents. Its only loss to a nationally-ranked opponent last season was the national semifinal versus Kutztown.
