Construction woes are a common thread in the growth narrative of cities, and Provo is no exception to this unwelcome yet familiar trend. In a bid to keep spirits high and local businesses bustling, the Provo City Government took to social media to reassure residents that the inconveniences of today pave the way for the smoother travels of tomorrow. In a lighthearted post on their Facebook page, officials acknowledged the disruption brought on by continuing construction but pointed out the silver lining for a local business. “Yes, the construction is a hassle, but IFA is totally worth the extra turn or two,” the post read, as per the City of Provo, pushing a message of resilience and community support.

Despite the sea of orange cones and the cacophony of construction equipment, IFA, a local store known for its inventory that ranges from agricultural feeds to gardening supplies, stands as a beacon of commerce amidst the turmoil caused by the urban facelift. The Provo City Government’s post not only draws attention to the challenge of navigating the changed streets but also serves a reminder of the role each citizen plays in sustaining the local economy ‘they’re staying open and stocked for the long haul, and your support keeps them going strong,’ it tells of the ongoing commitment from both the store and customers alike, detours don’t stop community—people do, and we’re not letting that happen,” as obtained by the City of Provo.

Community endurance and local business patronage are recurrent themes in times of city development, and in these moments, the spotlight often focuses on the perseverance of small businesses. In the case of IFA, their resilience is matched by the community’s efforts to retain a sense of normalcy and support amidst the disruptions. The local government’s nod to the store is a symbolic gesture, underlining the broader value of community cohesion when faced with the inevitable discomforts brought on by progression and change.
