RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A free festival celebrating Hispanic and Latin American culture and cuisine heads to Brown’s Island in Richmond on Saturday, May 4.

The ¿Qué Pasa? Festival will feature live entertainment, vendors, food and a kid’s area.

“We have three different areas for entertainment,” Michel Zajur, president and CEO of the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, told 8News. “Of course, the main stage, but it’s really great acts. We are bringing some people from out of town to perform here. Then, we have a lot of local artists.”

The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting the festival, which organizers say is their biggest fundraiser.

“The work that we do is tremendous,” Zajur said. “We are a statewide organization. We’re in schools. We help people find jobs. We help people. We have free dental clinics, legal clinics. It’s just a wonderful resource.”

Visitors can catch performances from the Latin Ballet of Virginia, the Panamanian Traditional Dance Group, and more. More than 120 vendors are expected to be onsite offering authentic Latin American food.

Zajur added the ¿Qué Pasa? Festival showcases the rich diversity of the Richmond region.

“A lot of people don’t know – you have 23 different Latino communities here within Richmond. This day, you get to experience a little bit of each of them. It really showcases the rich diversity this city has, and it really adds to the vibrancy of Richmond.”

The festival will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Brown’s Island. Parking information and directions can be found on the official ¿Qué Pasa? Festival website.
