Red Sox Fans Shouldn’t Forget About These Two Vital Extensions

Regardless of other roster moves that pan out or don’t pan out, Boston Red Sox fans have something fortunate to remind themselves of as 2025 turns to 2026: Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet are locked in with Boston for years to come.

Anthony is one of the best young hitters in the sport, and Crochet is a top five (at worst) starting pitcher in the sport. The fact that the Red Sox have both of these studs on their team for the foreseeable future is no small deal.

We’ve all been critical of Craig Breslow lately, but these two extensions from 2025 are ones we’ll look back on for years to come. Crochet joined the Red Sox via trade ahead of the 2025 season and immediately established himself as the ace of the rotation. As the Opening Day starter, he led MLB with over 250 strikeouts, becoming one of only five pitchers in franchise history to reach that milestone. He logged more than 200 innings, earned an All-Star nod, and delivered a Cy Young-caliber campaign, including a memorable outing against the New York Yankees where he notched his 200th strikeout of the year. Crochet anchored the staff amid injuries to others. He signed a six-year, $170 million extension on April 1, securing his future in Boston.

Anthony debuted in 2025 and enjoyed a breakout rookie year before an oblique injury sidelined him on September 2. After a sluggish start, he surged with a .329 batting average and .419 on-base percentage over 56 games, contributing to a 38-20 Red Sox record during that stretch. His defensive prowess in the outfield yielded +7 Defensive Runs Saved and +6 Outs Above Average. A clutch two-run homer at Yankee Stadium stood out among his feats. In August, Anthony inked an eight-year, $130 million extension, with potential escalators up to $230 million based on awards.

Both extensions reflect the Red Sox’s commitment to building around young talent as they eye contention in 2026.
