The NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City was once a robust event featuring young players from eight teams, including the Detroit Red Wings.
The participation thinned over time to the point where only two teams participated last year – the Red Wings and Dallas Stars.
Prospects from Detroit and Dallas will compete again this year, but in Frisco, Texas, for two games in September prior to training camp.
Centre I.C.E. Arena began hosting the NHL Prospects Tournament in 1998.
This does not affect the main Red Wings training camp, which will still take place in Traverse City, with dates to be announced later this summer.
Red Wings and Stars prospects will compete in Traverse City again in 2026. The plan for now is for the teams to alternate hosting the games.
“Things are changing, evolving in the offseason, development camps, rookie tournaments,” Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said last year. “Teams are doing different things.”
