TYLER, Texas — The MSU Denver Roadrunners fell short against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks and the UT Tyler Patriots Thursday afternoon, and their 2025 season comes to an end.

The Roadrunners end the campaign with a 33-24 record, going 22-10 in RMAC play while also earning a spot in the championship game of the conference tournament.

The high-powered MSU Denver offense was held to just five runs across the two games, unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position. Despite scoring just five runs, they combined for 21 hits.

Brad Helton turned in a gutsy 4.1 inning performance on the mound for the Roadrunners in game one, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out three in his final collegiate appearance.

Kobe Krenz and Dylan Webber tossed a combined 3.2 innings to close out the game, allowing just one earned run but MSU Denver fell just short by a score of 5-2 against the Mavericks.

Brooks Rasmussen had a great day in the batter’s box at the bottom of the lineup for the Roadrunners, going 5-for-8 with a pair of runs and an RBI.

Gavin Schmeh was the other MSU Denver player with a multi-hit game in each contest. He went 4-for-8 on the afternoon with a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Despite earning the loss, Nolan Livsey threw 5.1 innings for the Roadrunners in game two, allowing seven runs on eight hits against a tough Patriots offense.

GAME ONE

CMU grabbed an early 1-0 lead in first off an RBI double into the left center gap.

After a scoreless two innings, Easton Amundson got the Roadrunners on the board with a double off the right field fence in the fourth to make it a 1-1 game.

The Mavericks answered back with a sac fly the next half inning to go up 2-1 over MSUD.

Jesse Velders knotted the contest back at two on a fielder’s choice in the top of the fifth.

Colorado Mesa scored the following inning with a fielder’s choice of their own and an RBI single for a 4-2 advantage. They scored one more in the seventh for a three-run lead.

Mavericks would hold on to their lead for a 5-2 win over MSU Denver.

GAME TWO

The host team UT Tyler notched one run in the bottom half of the first with a two-out bunt placed down the third base line.

An Ortiz fielder’s choice in the third frame tied the game at one a piece.

Five hits for the Patriots and a few MSU Denver miscues in the third inning led to six runs for UT Tyler and a 7-1 lead.

Back-to-back hits from Schmeh and Rasmussen the following half inning gave the Roadrunners their second run of the game.

Another Schmeh double in the sixth inning scored one more run and inched MSU Denver closer, chasing four runs after six frames.

UT Tyler scored their eighth run of the game in the sixth on a sharp line drive that was dropped by Andrew Biddle in center.

A sac fly, two-run double, and RBI single in the bottom of the eighth put the Patriots up by nine, a 12-3 score, headed into the final frame of the contest.
