ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men’s track & field team tallied 21 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, four NCAA provisional marks, one event win and saw assistant coach Jordan Geist record the World No. 1 mark in the shot put at the Ashland Invitational Saturday at Ashland University.

Geist, who competes internationally for the Iron Wood Track Club, set the Ashland facility record and put up the No. 1 shot put mark in the world so far this indoor season with a winning throw of 21.63 meters.

It sparked a strong showing for the SRU student-athletes in the throws as The Rock throwers recorded eight PSAC marks and two NCAA provisional marks between the shot put and the weight throw.

Seaton Wozniak took third in the shot put with an NCAA mark of 16.60 meters to lead six SRU athletes to top 10 marks. Connor Brown was fourth (16.26m), Tyler Ondrusek was fifth (16.06m), Zach Gose was eighth (15.41m), Evan Hall was ninth (15.36m) and Logan Parker was 10th (15.24m).

Gose also hit the NCAA standard with a career-best throw of 18.86 meters to place third in the weight throw. Ryan Oleksy also met the PSAC standard in 13th at 15.10 meters.

The Rock picked up one event win Saturday and it came from Matt Mallon, who won the long jump with a leap of 6.92 meters to lead The Rock to a 1-2 finish. Jason Alderson took second at 6.85 meters and also hit the PSAC mark in the triple jump with a third place finish and a leap of 13.78 meters.

Slippery Rock had six pole vaulters meet the PSAC standard with Drew Layton leading the way in third place with a season-best and NCAA provisional mark of 5.10 meters. Logan Gossard was fifth with a clearance of 4.65 meters. Ashton Grossman (eighth), Christian Crowley (ninth), Scott Finch (ninth) and Bradon Schneider (11th) all finished with matching clearances of 4.50 meters.

The Rock also had one NCAA mark on the track with Matthew Crow posting a season-best effort of 8.14 seconds on his way to placing fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. Jonathan Wess took 14th with a PSAC mark of 8.49 seconds.

Distance runners Eli Schreiber and Brady Hoffman also hit PSAC marks on the track. Schreiber took 12th in the 3,000-meter run in 8:41.63 and Hoffman was 15th in the 800-meter run in 1:57.49.

The Rock closed out the meet with a season-best effort in the 4×400-meter relay with Kadin Johnson, Jacob Thompson, Trey Huha and Kyle Rauchut combining to take second in 3:17.04.

A look at the top three SRU finishers in each event Saturday can be found below. Full SRU results are available HERE.
