Sacramento musicians can level up their careers at The Sound Business Summit, a free event offering workshops for local artists. Hosted by Department of Sound and supported by the City’s Office of Arts and Culture, it runs November 10–15 at Shattered Records. Sessions include “Making Money with Music,” led by musician and author Randy Chertkow, as reported by the Sacramento City Express.
You’ll get a year-long pass to the online “Making Money With Music” course, too, which is kind of a big deal if you’re serious about not just making tunes, but getting paid for ’em. “Sacramento is home to an extraordinary number of working artists — it’s time we back them to thrive,” John Hamilton Hodgson, the co-founder and CEO of Department of Sound, is pretty stoked about the potential here, seeing it as a win-win for the artists and the city’s cultural mojo, according to a recent spiel from Sacramento City Express.
Sign up at deptofsound.org/summit by November 1 to join. Space is limited to 18 people per night, with a waitlist if it fills up. Participants must be 18 or older and live within Sacramento city limits. The Department of Sound is like a mentor for musicians, offering career tips and music business guidance, supported by the city’s creative economy program. For more info on the summit and their work, visit www.deptofsound.org, as per the Sacramento City Express.
