Nighthawks Entertainment and the Latino Student Association will be hosting a salsa making competition on Thursday Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Robinson Ballroom on the Gainesville campus.

Elias Quintero, President of Nighthawks Entertainment and Secretary for the Latino Student Association, hopes that the competition will be a fun way for students to take a break between classes.

“I’m just really hoping to get students to come out [sic] and enter their salsas, because last year it was really fun. We had a full room…and people were coming in, trying them. And it’s just a really fun time for students to come out and join, get a little break from their classes.”

Those who wish to participate in the competition are required to make a salsa or guacamole from scratch. The salsa will be presented to students who will act as judges and decide the best submissions. In order to take dietary preferences and allergies into account, participants are required to list out the ingredients used in their submission.

All types of salsas are accepted, and guacamoles are allowed as well. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and submissions will be taken until the day of the event. The event is free and everyone is encouraged to come and try the salsas. To enter into the competition, click here.
