MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -The local Sam’s Club in Meridian is one of the first in the state to utilize a new AI technology camera system.

“One thing we hear comments from our members here at Sam’s Club say is that they don’t like having to check out and then get stuck in a line waiting to get out,” said Josh Walters, Sam’s Club Manager.

Sam’s Club unveiled a new technology in January during the Walmart keynote conference in Las Vegas 2024 announcing the use of Artificial Intelligence and a new camera system that is being used to scan customers’ receipts at the door.

“The overall experience for the members is going to be a lot more streamlined as far as exiting the club. It also helps with the associate’s interaction with the members, because there’s less time as far as it takes for them to scan the items in a cart,” said Walters. “The new technology pretty much does that for the associate. It actually can see up to a square inch of the packaging and can identify what the item is just from the visual of it.”

Meridian Sam’s Club received one of the first systems in our area and Walters says it’s a reflection of how great the club is.

“We are very busy at peak times of day and it’s good to have this technology to represent our area and our club.”

This new technology will eventually be used in Sam’s Clubs nationwide.
