San Antonio International Airport earned the second-best rating from passengers among all Texas airports, according to a newly-released study.

The airport received a customer satisfaction rating of 650 in J.D. Power’s annual North America Airport Satisfaction Study, edging out the nationwide average of 644 for large airports. Dallas Love Field was the only Texas airport to rank higher, with a score of 705 that placed it third among large airports – defined as those serving 10 million to 32.9 million passengers a year.

San Antonio came in 13th place among large airports. John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., got the highest marks in the large airport category, with a score of 730.

Among other Texas airports, both Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport scored 643. George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston got the lowest marks in Texas of 606, while Dallas Fort Worth International Airport scored 620.

Both George Bush and DFW fall into the “mega” airport category for handling more than 33 million passengers a year. That group generally scored lower because of longer security waits and heavier crowding.

Passenger satisfaction rose nationwide this year, with the report citing better food, beverage and retail offerings, especially from local vendors. At San Antonio’s terminals, travelers can find local offerings like Merit Coffee, La Gloria, Rosario’s Mexican Cafe y Cantina and a San Antonio Spurs store.

The report, based on a survey with more than 30,000 responses, ranks airports on seven factors from ease of travel to food to retail.

San Antonio’s airport is growing. It broke ground at the end of 2024 on a $1.7 billion terminal that will more than double the size of the airport.
