SAN ANTONIO- San Antonio is experiencing a scorching heatwave, with temperatures soaring to dangerous levels across the city.

Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and stay cool.

The heat is palpable, with UV rays radiating intensely off sidewalks and surfaces.

The heat was put on display with our temperature gun, revealing sidewalk temperatures reaching up to 146F and street temperatures climbing to 153F.

In contrast, shaded areas showed a significant drop to around 117F.

Dr. Jessica Solis McCarthy from University Health advises that cooling down with water, such as at splash pads, is crucial for reducing heat exposure.

“Water helps to relieve and lower body temperature by conducting heat away from the body,” she said.

Dr. Solis McCarthy also highlights common symptoms of heat exhaustion, which include dizziness, nausea, and confusion.

Hospitals often see an uptick in heat-related cases during such extreme weather.

There are currently over 30 San Antonio locations for the public to use to stay cool. These include:

  • City Libraries
  • Senior Centers
  • Community Centers
