SAN ANTONIO — Move over Philadelphia! The “Alamo City” could soon be bigger than the “City of Brotherly Love.”
According to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, San Antonio is on track to become the sixth largest city in America.
Between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024, San Antonio gained 23,945 residents, making it the fourth fastest-growing large city in America. In total, San Antonio recorded 1,526,656 in total population.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia recorded 1,573,916 in total population, only 47,260 more residents than San Antonio.
Houston is still the most populated city in Texas, with 2,390,125 residents in 2024. Behind San Antonio, Dallas was the ninth most populous city in the U.S. with over 1.3 million residents, followed by Fort Worth at No. 11 with over 1 million residents and Austin at No. 13 with over 993,000 residents.
The fastest-growing city in America was Princeton, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. According to the data, Princeton increased its population by nearly one-third in just one year.
Fort Worth also hit an important milestone, crossing the 1 million-population threshold.
