Impacts of the week

Mr. Crabby’s Seafood Kitchen opens along North Loop 1604

The local seafood spot opened a new, second location, serving Cajun classics such as po’boys, fried gator, crawfish etouffee and gumbo, according to its website. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of seafood boils and fried seafood baskets.

Dunkin’ coming soon to Universal City

A new coffee shop will be opening inside Universal City’s Walmart. Dunkin’ serves up specialty coffee, donuts, tea, breakfast sandwiches and more.

IHOP to close, reopen as dual-branded Applebee’s in Selma

The IHOP located at The Forum at Olympia Parkway will be closing this spring to become a dual-branded Applebee’s. The restaurant will be split in half and contain menus for both eateries.

Purrfecto Cat Lounge to bring cat cafe experience to San Antonio this May

The Austin-based cat cafe is expanding south and adding a new location in the Alamo City. The cafe will feature adoptable felines, coffee, snacks and more.

Alsies ice cream truck to serve up scoops in Northeast San Antonio soon

The ice cream truck—locally owned by Steven Johns—will serve the Schertz, Selma, Universal City and Converse areas. The truck offers packaged Mexican and gourmet ice creams in addition to event catering.

Dining spotlight

Saludos Cocina brings Mexico City flair to downtown New Braunfels

Tucked just north of the main square in downtown New Braunfels, Saludos Cocina has brought Mexican flavor to the city.

From tacos to sweet treats, the restaurant officially opened its doors to the public Feb. 2.

Saludos has taken over the historic Dittlinger building—located at 398 E. San Antonio St.—inviting patrons to savor recipes inspired by the vibrant culture of Mexico City, co-owner Israel Trevino said.

Staying local

Saludos aims to broaden the palette of the New Braunfels community and offer a taste of a culture nearby residents might not have otherwise, Trevino said.
