San Antonio Philharmonic to continue concerts at the Scottish Rite

The San Antonio Philharmonic is planning regular concerts at the Scottish Rite, despite the cancelation of holiday events and reports the group has been given an eviction notice to vacate the premises.

The San Antonio Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops and New Years Pops performances have both been canceled and removed from the website, according to Eddie Gutierrez, who works in marketing and community engagement for the group.

But the philharmonic’s classic series is set to continue at the Scottish Rite with concerts scheduled for this weekend. Concerts are still on the calendar through May at the 2,200-seat venue on the corner of Avenue E and Fourth Street.

The current relationship between the San Antonio Philharmonic and the Scottish Rite is unclear, but last year the two entities had announced plans for a longterm residency.

In October 2024, the San Antonio Philharmonic’s executive director, Robert Treviño, announced co-ownership with the Scottish Rite and updates for the building.

“If we can create a business model where … we own the venue we can really bring in … some incredible artists, bring in more concerts, make tickets affordable,” Treviño said when the two organizations signed the agreement.

Before its partnership with the Scottish Rite, the San Antonio Philharmonic had filed a lawsuit against two of its former board members, which resulted in a countersuit.

Those cases focused on a contentious board meeting in June 2024. Court records show jury trials are set for March 16 and Nov. 2, 2026.

Texas Public Radio and the San Antonio Current reported that the San Antonio Philharmonic was facing eviction from the building in late November.

Representatives from the San Antonio Philharmonic and Scottish Rite did not respond to requests for comment as of publication time. There is no record yet of the eviction process having been started.
