A taste of San Antonio has officially arrived in the Hill Country. Sofia’s Pizzeria, the family-owned San Antonio favorite, has opened its first New Braunfels restaurant near the historic downtown scene, bringing its award-winning recipes and big flavors to the city.

Founded in San Antonio and named after the owners’ daughter, Sofia, the pizzeria has built a loyal following thoughout the Alamo City, thanks not only to its scratch-made dough, fresh sauces and hand-shredded cheese, but also to its deep commitment to the community. That commitment is exemplified in the “Pies for Kids Program,” which donates 35 cents from every 18-inch pizza sold each month to a local children’s nonprofit.

Sofia’s officially opened in New Braunfels on Saturday, February 7, inviting fans to enjoy pizza by the slice, salads and pasta, all made with the same care and quality that has earned the San Antonio locations widespread praise, the posting highlighted.

“Same award-winning recipes. Same big flavor. All made daily with special care given to our dough,” the restaurant shared online.

Some mystery does surround the new pizzeria. The space at 508 Landa Street was formerly home to The Big Bib BBQ, another San Antonio eatery expanding into the Hill Country town. The barbecue joint first opened in 2022, following the footsteps of McBee’s BBQ after it closed in 2019. It then temporarily closed in October 2025 for kitchen renovations, however the business never reopened (or announced a permanent closure) paving the way for Sofia’s takeover. The Big Bib BBQ’s website still says New Braunfels is temporarily closed, so MySA has reached out for more information.

MySA has also reached out to Sofia’s for comment on the New Braunfels expansion, a first for the beloved San Antonio business.

Find it: 508 Landa St., New Braunfels, TX 78130
