SAN ANTONIO – Whether you’ve been to a San Antonio Spurs game in person or caught them taking over your social media feed, you’ve heard them before.
“OLÉ, OLÉ, OLÉ, OLÉ! Go Spurs, Go Spurs! OLÉ, OLÉ, OLÉ, OLÉ! Go Spurs, Go Spurs!” shouts The Jackals.
Loud, wild, and impossible to ignore — they’re some of the most passionate and energetic fans in the Spurs family, known as The Jackals.
“Okay, so the real Jackal, aka our Jackal, is the most ravenous fan for the San Antonio Spurs. They do not get off their feet. They stand the whole time. They chant every moment of the game,” said Redmon Carson who is one of the members of the group.
As cheers from the Frost Bank Arena erupt after the Spurs make a quick shot against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“We do not get on our phones during game time. We are supposed to be locked in the whole time. That is what a Jackal is,” said Carson.
During home games, the fans inside The Frost Bank center serve as a heartbeat
“It means a lot it means family, roots born and raised in San Antonio, loyalty and it means team most importantly. Fiesta baby!” said a Spurs fan wearing his big Spurs chain and hat.
And The Jackals are the pulse.
“We only have 70 seats. That’s 0.0033% of the stadium. That’s what we’re working with. And so, every single person in our section is trying to give it their all to make sure we interject life and a sense of fiesta to a degree, it’s a party. We are there to ignite the crowd and whenever it explodes, that place goes nuts and those players go crazy for it,” said Carson.
You come in and we might not be the— you know, we’re there to ignite the crowd and then, whenever it explodes, that whole place goes nuts and those players go crazy for it.
Founded ahead of the 2025-2026 season by Victor Wembanyama, the group got the ultimate co-sign from Wemby himself when he gave them their now-iconic name, The Jackals.
“So, it’s the ‘European cousin’ of the coyote that’s where the name ‘Jackal’ came from,” said Carson.
“We are creating a new support section in the Frost Bank Center. If this group reaches its full potential, I have no doubt that this section will help us win games for sure,” said Wembanyama.
How does one become part of The Jackal family?
“But really all you have to do is just show up, show that you’re willing to do those things,” said Carson.
To become a Jackal, their criteria are simple. You must be a diehard Spurs fan. Attend 75% of the home games. Participate in chants and rituals, and support with passion and positivity
“Because that crowd’s gonna need you and that team’s gonna need you in moments when they’re down and they need that. Energizer Bunny to be injected into them, into that crowd, to get them back into the game. That’s what we’re there for,” said Carson.
“I’ve been going to these games my whole life, going to these games and experiencing The Jackals. The clothing that they put on the Nacho Libre, it’s so awesome man,” said a Spurs fan wearing his orange fiesta era t-shirt.
It’s those creative, over-the-top chants that keep San Antonio Spurs fans fired up, loud, and going, and going just like the energizer bunny.
One of the popular chants?
“Well obviously, ¡Olé! is a very famous chant and you can’t replicate it. That’s why it’s so good in the arena,” said Carson.
From chanting to representing the Spurs colors. If it’s fiesta era night you better
Wear your shirt! Wear your shirt! Shouts The Jackals.
“The fiesta colors were this like proclamation to the fans that have been begging for something like this Because it really embodies the city and its really its first time to see something like this. The whole city does buy in and wears their shirt,” said Carson.
“San Antonio is fiesta. These colors you know what it is. We swapped it because we care about the colors. Let’s go Spurs, Go Spurs Go,” said two fans as they swap their turquois and pink t-shirts.
No matter if you’re up in the 200 section or courtside cheering for the Spurs. The jackals are in section 114 and in the H-E-B fan zone carrying the energy across all levels of Frost Bank Arena.
“But reality is, we want to make that place where any fan shows up any game. You can show up one game per season, and you think I am a Jackal for the day. But we are going to be loud and make sure everyone feels they are part of the Jackal every game. Everybody in that arena is apart of that,” said Carson.
