San Domenico junior and Stanford commit Carly Amborn will have the opportunity to take her game to the international stage this summer. Amborn is among the 44 players invited to participate in the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s Under-17 National Team trials in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The trials begin on May 23, culminating with the announcement of a 12-member team to play in the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup in Mexico, July 13-21. New York University coach Meg Barber was tabbed as head coach for the USA Women’s U17 National squad.

Amborn, 17, is one of only five players from California invited to the trials. Athletes were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Developmental National Team Committee. Eligible athletes are born on or after Jan. 1 2007.

Tiburon’s Sadie Leonard of Williams continues to garner accolades during her standout career as she was named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year for the second year in a row this week. The sophomore, who is the fourth Ephs to claim Pitcher of the Year honors, helped Williams capture its second straight NESCAC Championship with an 11-strikeout performance while allowing just three hits in a 3-0 championship game win over Trinity.

Leonard was the 2022 MCAL Pitcher of the Year for Redwood High.

Leonard leads the NESCAC with a 0.74 ERA and 171 strikeouts. An All-NESCAC First Team performer for the second year in a row, Leonard has allowed a league-low 15 runs and 41 hits while limiting opponents to a .180 average this season as the Ephs head into NCAA Tournament action.
