Drone flyover video of Omni La Costa North Course par-3 16th hole

Omni La Costa is hosting the NCAA mens and womens golf championships for a second year in a row. The North Course’s 16th hole is the final par-3.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — The 2025 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship is underway.

The best teams in men’s college golf are at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North Course for the second straight year battling it out for a national title. Auburn is the defending national champion and one of the favorites to defend their title. Play started Friday morning, kicking off four rounds of stroke play.

Follow along below for live updates from the opening round of the NCAA Men’s Championship:

Omni La Costa used to host the PGA Tour through the years, and some of the best golfers in the history of the sport have won on this property, from Tiger Woods to Jack Nicklaus and plenty more.

Past winners are idolized on a wall above the putting green next to the first tee, and now the college teams and individuals who triumph at La Costa have their own spot in history.

Not a bad start for the Trojans, making their first appearance at the NCAA Men’s Championship. Troy is 1 under with every player on the course. Brantley Scott, Nick Fowlkes and Pablo Gracia all have birdies early, and Troy is tied for the early lead.

However, the early trend is a lot of team scores over par. With every team on the course, only three are under par as of now (California, Troy, Texas Tech).

Last year, Illinois was the only team to finish under par in stroke play at 6 under, and Hiroshi Tai won medalist honors coming in at 3 under. For the women, the course seemed to play a tad easier for the week but definitely got tougher as the week went on.

If I had to guess, it will be similar for the men. Winning team score will likely fall between 10-15 under while it wouldn’t surprise me to see the individual winner get between 8-10 under.

Golfweek’s college golf experts Lance Ringler and Cameron Jourdan made predictions for the championship. You can see their entire selections here.
