Seattle Mariners prospects in MLB top 100Seattle Mariners news and analysis

Seattle Mariners prospect Michael Arroyo continues to trend in the right direction.

After a scorching run in the Northwest League led to his promotion to Double-A, the middle infielder was among the highest risers in MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospect update Tuesday.

Arroyo, 20, made the jump from 75th overall to 65th. He also moved in front of outfielder Jonny Farmelo to become the sixth-ranked prospect for the Mariners, who possesses a league-high nine players on MLB’s list.

An international free agent signing at just 17 years old in 2022, Arroyo has quickly established himself as a standout player in Seattle’s talented-laden farm system.

The Cartagena, Colombia, native began his ascension during a breakout campaign last season. Across two levels of the minors (Single-A and High-A), Arroyo slashed .285/.400/.509 with 26 doubles, seven triples and 23 home runs.

The most impressive part of Arroyo’s season was that his numbers improved after moving up a level. In 60 games with Single-A Modesto, he slashed .279/.404/.500 with 11 doubles and 11 home runs in 60 games. He then posted a .290/.397/.519 slash line with 15 doubles and 12 home runs with High-A Everett.

This year started off slowly for Arroyo. He was hitting just .195 in Everett at the end of April, but he turned it around in a major way afterwards.

Arroyo hit .293 with five doubles and six home runs in May. He then went on a red-hot tear in June, hitting seven home runs while collecting at least one hit in 15 of 17 games with the AquaSox.

Arroyo was promoted to Double-A Arkansas on June 23. At the time, he was second in the Northwest League in homers (15) and OPS (.934), third in slugging (.512) and on-base percentage (.422), tied for seventh in RBIs (39) and tied for eighth in doubles (14) and hits (65).

Arroyo has continued to hit since joining the Travelers. After going 0 for 2 with three walks in his Double-A debut, he’s collected at least one hit in five straight games, including three straight multi-hit performances and his first Double-A home run.
