The second of three cannabis businesses selected to open brick-and-mortar stores in Petaluma is preparing to open its retail location on Friday, April 10.
Solful, a cannabis brand with other dispensaries in San Francisco, Sebastopol and Healdsburg, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony that morning at its new location at 5004 Petaluma Blvd. N. starting at 9 a.m.
“As we open in Petaluma, we’re proud to bring our uncompromising commitment to quality and local farmers to this community. Our presence in Petaluma expands access to the freshest, most thoughtfully crafted cannabis in the state while creating additional opportunities to support the small farms that define Northern California cannabis,” said Solful CEO and co-founder Eli Melrod in a news release.
In June 2024, the Petaluma City Council voted to allow three brick-and-mortar retail cannabis shops to open within city limits in certain locations, and in December of that year the city picked the three businesses out of nine candidates.
The first of the three, Farmhouse Artisan Market, opened its new store in December of last year. The third business, Down Under Industries, already has a location just outside Petaluma city limits at 50 Ely Rd. N. but has yet to open inside the city.
California voters legalized recreational cannabis use, sale and cultivation in November 2016. Solful says it was founded in 2016 as a retailer, but added manufacturing operations in Santa Rosa and Humboldt County and now produces its own Solful-branded products. It claims to be the only California dispensary that hand-picks all of its flower from local farms.
Throughout the opening weekend, Solful says it plans to run special offers on locally produced cannabis. On Friday, Petaluma-based Paradise Found Records and Music store will play music, while Lagunitas Brewing Co. will serve uninfused “hop water” to guests.
