The Miami Hurricanes come off a bye week to host Louisville in a Friday night game in South Florida. The Gators need a win at home vs. Mississippi St.

The Miami Hurricanes‘ hopes for playing for a national championship took a hit on Oct. 17 after Louisville upset the second-ranked team in the nation.

The Cardinals stunned the Canes 24-21 at Hard Rock Stadium, giving both teams 5-1 records.

Heisman Trophy favorite Carson Beck threw four interceptions.

Louisville took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed. Beck tossed a pair of first-half interceptions and could not get the offense rolling. His early fourth-quarter pick was crucial, coming minutes after another one was nullified by a roughing-the-passer call. His final pick put the dagger in UM, which had moved into field-goal position.

Miami, a 13 1/2-point favorite, had a 10-game winning streak at home and had not lost in Miami Gardens since falling to Louisville in 2023. It is the Cardinals’ highest-ranked road win in program history.

The Canes rallied in the final quarter thanks to a recovered fumble leading to Malachi Toney’s 12-yard touchdown run. A 2-point conversion pass to CJ Daniels narrowed Louisville’s lead to 3 points with 7:37 left in the final quarter. But a final drive ended with a diving interception by linebacker T.J. Capers with 32 seconds left.

The Hurricanes certainly can still win the ACC and make the college football playoffs but they were primed to be one of the top seeds. However, memories of last season – starting 9-0 and losing three of their final four – are still fresh in UM fans’ minds.

The Cardinals stuffed Miami’s running game and kept defensive end Ruebin Bain Jr. in check.
