The last remaining Sigma Derby machine in Las Vegas has a new casino home after being paraded through the Fremont Street Experience on Tuesday.

The mechanical horse racing game was moved from the D Las Vegas to sister property Golden Gate hotel-casino, where it will reopen to players Friday.

Spectators gathered downtown to watch the machine’s trip across Fremont Street, which included real horses, entertainers and special guests.

The relocation keeps one of the casino industry’s few remaining Sigma Derby machines in operation and on Fremont Street. The coin-operated game has attracted a dedicated following for decades, with players wagering on miniature mechanical horses as they race around a circular track.

“Sigma Derby is more than just a game, it’s a piece of Las Vegas history,” Golden Gate co-owner and CEO Derek Stevens said in a statement. “For generations, it has brought together friends, families and complete strangers who instantly became part of the excitement the moment the horses started moving. There were people who plan entire trips around playing Sigma Derby during its time at the D Las Vegas, and we’ve heard countless stories from guests who made lifelong memories around this machine.”

Guests will be able to play Sigma Derby at Golden Gate beginning at 4 p.m. Friday. The reopening coincides with a special edition of the property’s weekly “The Night Starts Here” promotion, which will feature complimentary drinks and slot-play giveaways.

“We’re excited to welcome those longtime fans to Golden Gate while introducing a whole new era for one of the most unique gaming experiences ever created,” Stevens said.

Golden Gate, which opened in 1906 as Hotel Nevada, is the oldest hotel-casino in Las Vegas. The addition of Sigma Derby brings another piece of gaming history to the downtown property.
