CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Stanford, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest earned second-round wins Friday in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. With the six victories, the ACC has the second-most teams remaining in the tournament field.
Overall, the ACC moved to 15-1-2 in the NCAA Tournament, as the league’s .889 winning percentage is the highest among all conferences.
Top-seeded Duke rolled to a 3-0 win over eighth-seeded Texas Tech, while second-seeded North Carolina used a late goal from Tessa Dellarose to fend off Santa Clara, 1-0, and second-seeded Wake Forest knocked off Colorado, 3-1.
Third-seeded Stanford also took advantage of a late goal, as Allie Montoya’s second goal of the day gave the Cardinal a 2-1 win over UConn. Fourth-seeded Notre Dame scored early and sealed a 3-1 over No. 5 seed Kentucky and seventh-seeded Virginia Tech pulled off a 2-1 upset of second-seeded UCLA.
In the third round, three ACC teams will continue to host, as Duke welcomes fifth-seeded Michigan State, UNC takes on sixth-seeded Minnesota and Wake will face third-seeded Ohio State. The Hokies will play in a neutral site match in Los Angeles against third-seeded Iowa, while Stanford is at second-seeded Arkansas and Notre Dame is at top-seeded Mississippi State.
The third round will be held Sunday, November 24, followed by the quarterfinals on November 29 or 30. All rounds prior to the Women’s College Cup will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The 43rd annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played December 6 and 9 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, with North Carolina and the city of Cary serving as hosts. The first national semifinal will be played and broadcast live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET Friday, December 6, followed by the second semifinal beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET live on ESPNU. The national championship match will take place at 5 p.m. ET on Monday, December 9, and will also be broadcast live on ESPNU.
