JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Junior Vera Sjöberg of the Boston University track & field team qualified for the NCAA quarterfinal in the 1500m, highlighting the Terriers’ day at the NCAA East First Rounds at Hodges Stadium.

Sjöberg ran a time of 4:09.69, the second-fastest of any qualifier. That mark also broke her own school record of 4:09.79, which she set back in April at the Wake Forest Invitational.

The Stockholm, Sweden native is looking to get to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon for the first time in her career, and will have the chance to do on Saturday, May 31 at 5:15 p.m. in the 1500m quarterfinal.

Also racing in the 1500m was freshman Caroline Collins, as she made her NCAA East First Rounds debut. Collins finished 47th with a time of 4:33.76, capping off a season where she posted a personal best of 4:17.07 and finished fourth at the Patriot League Championships in the 1500m.

Junior Ellie Roan started the day with a personal best in the hammer throw and finished 17th, improving upon her 2024 performance at the East First Rounds, but failed to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Roan reached 60.59m in the event, becoming just the second Terrier to ever eclipse 60m in the hammer throw. She concludes a season in which she solidified her position as number two all-time at BU in the hammer and won a Patriot League gold medal in the event.

In the long jump, junior Peace Omonzane finished 29th with a mark of 5.94m. This was her second regionals appearance in the event, and she improved upon her 42nd-place finish from 2024. The Brampton, Ontario native will have another shot at Eugene on Saturday, when she competes in the triple jump at 2:30 p.m.

Senior Asia Hamilton joined Omonzane in the long jump and took 43rd place, reaching 5.63 meters. The senior capped off her career at the NCAA East First Rounds and finished a stellar year where she earned five total Patriot League medals, including a silver in the long jump, two bronzes in the triple jump and two bronzes in the high jump.

The Terriers’ men’s squad hits the track again Friday, May 30, while the women are back on Saturday, May 31 for the final day of the NCAA East First Rounds.
