Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones’ first chief of staff lasted less than a month on the job.
Jordan Abelson, a Pennsylvania native who served as Jones’ campaign manager, resigned Saturday after deciding the role wasn’t a good fit.
Two sources familiar with the situation said the position had already been backfilled, though the new chief of staff has not been named publicly.
Since being sworn in on June 18, Jones had made few hires in the mayor’s office. City Hall insiders have been perplexed by the issue, as well as the lack of local talent in Jones’ inner circle, for a progressive mayor in a blue city.
Abelson, 27, started as her campaign’s communications director and was promoted to campaign manager after the first campaign manager was fired.
“I got her to where she needed to be to do all the good things that she will do for the city of San Antonio,” Abelson said on Saturday. “It was an honor to work for her and I’m excited for my next adventure!”
