Small Business Saturday was first observed in 2010, a response to the massive Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping events.

KILGORE, Texas — Kilgore’s Mingle and Jingle event took place on Nov. 29 as a part of Small Business Saturday.

Residents had the opportunity to stroll through historic downtown, enjoy Christmas lights and support local shops. Small Business Saturday takes place annually on the final Saturday in November.

Another highlight of Saturday night’s festivities were free trolley rides.

Memori Ruesing is the owner of Kilgore’s Grand Empress Tea Room, which was offering free samples to customers who stopped by to check out the business.

“A lot of little towns do these,” Ruesing said. “Mingle and Jingle is is a good night to open up, welcome the public and say, ‘Hey, this is who we are.'”

Small Business Saturday was first observed in 2010, a response to the massive Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping events.

While big chains are convenient, Ruesing says it’s the smaller spots that usually have the best treasures.

“It’s more personable,” she said. “I like to think that in a small business you find that unusual, little quirky gift or experience.”

The next Small Business Saturday will take place on Nov. 28, 2026.
