S&N Infrastructure will lay off 126 workers across North Carolina who report to a Franklin County field office after the company lost its largest customer in the state.

Internet company Brightspeed told S&N that it was pulling all of its work from the company effective Sept. 1, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the Department of Commerce on Monday.

“As a result of this unanticipated loss of business, N&S will suffer a severe drop in revenue and will be left with no choice but to lay off employees currently servicing that contract in the state, effective Sept. 8, 2025,” according to the filing.

The company’s name is N&S Locating Services and is based in Louisa, Virginia, north of Richmond, but has operated as N&S since a December 2023 recapitalization by Salt Lake City-based Tower Arch Capital.

S&N’s employees report to a Youngsville field office, located about 25 miles north of Raleigh. A utility locator is responsible for identifying and marking the location of underground utility lines and other infrastructure, such as water, gas, electrical, telecommunications and cable TV lines.

Workers have been told they are losing their jobs. They are not part of a union and bumping rights do not exist.

Company officials declined to comment. The company began in 1977 and has operations in nine southeastern states and Washington, D.C.
