Southland gas prices drop for 12th straight day

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Saturday for the 12th consecutive day, decreasing 1.2 cents to $4.779.

The average price has dropped 10.8 cents over the past 12 days, including seven-tenths of a cent Friday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. It is 5.4 cents less than one week ago, but 12.6 cents more than one month ago and 32.2 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.714 since rising to a record $6.493 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The decreases follow a 12-day streak of increases totaling 26.4 cents that had boosted the average price to its highest amount since April 10.

The Orange County average price also dropped for the 12th consecutive day, falling nine-tenths of a cent to $4.715. The Orange County average price is 6.3 cents less than one week ago, but 11.1 cents more than one month ago and 33.7 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.743 since rising to a record $6.458 on Oct. 5, 2022.

“Oil Price Information Service reported late last week that California refinery gasoline production has rebounded after a downturn related to refinery maintenance,” Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager, said in a statement released Thursday. “This price drop comes just in time for the nearly six million Southern Californians who are planning to drive to Thanksgiving holiday getaways next weekend.”

The national average price dropped 1.5 cents to $3.079. It is three- tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 1.3 cents more than one month ago and 2.1 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.937 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
