The fall season is often known for the changing colors and anticipation for Halloween. NMU’s Spanish Club, however, takes Dia de los Muertos into consideration as well. They hosted a festive party for both holidays this season with games, crafts and treats.
“Today we’re celebrating not only Halloween, but [also] Dia de los Muertos, which is a Hispanic holiday,” said Grace Wisniewski, event organizer and Spanish Club member. “It celebrates your dead relatives, and it honors them in a way. It’s also connected with [the] Catholic faith through All [Souls] Day.”
Students attending the celebration watched the movie “Coco” and socialized with friends and community members as they participated in a variety of activities. Spanish Club is one of the many examples of different student organizations hosting unique events for the holidays.
