MLB

Michael Helman provided all the offense for Texas, including this 5th inning grand slam. Helman would also drive in a run on a double in the 7th while lefty Jacob Latz pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings as the playoff-chasing Rangers beat the MLB-best Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 on Monday night.

Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (9-8, 3.74 ERA) starts Tuesday night in the middle game of the series, starting tonight at 7:05. Catch that game on AM 1490 and FM 96.3 the Legend.

NFL

JJ McCarthy completed 13 of 20 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while rushing for 25 yards and another score as the Vikings came back to beat the Bears 27-24.

Russell Wilson will remain the New York Giants’ starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, coach Brian Daboll said Monday. Daboll had been noncommittal on Wilson retaining the job after his performance in Sunday’s 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders when the Giants didn’t score a touchdown. Daboll said on his videoconference call Monday with reporters that there was never a serious decision to make despite rookie Jaxson Dart waiting in the wings.

Wilson went 17-of-37 passing for 168 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the season-opening loss. He was especially ineffective under pressure, completing just 2 of 12 passes for 26 yards with two sacks and two scrambles. New York managed just 231 yards of total offense and stalled twice in the red zone.

MLB
