SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs have launched a campaign to rally support for the passage of Propositions A and B, coinciding with the first day of early voting.

Former Mayor Ron Nirenberg, former County Judge Nelson Wolff, and local business leaders joined the Spurs at The Rock at La Cantera to advocate for the propositions.

The Spurs have committed $500 million to the arena’s cost and any overruns, along with an additional $1.5 billion for downtown development.

However, questions remain about escalating costs, including the estimated $200 million needed to relocate a SAWS chilled water plant.

Spurs officials acknowledged the rising construction costs and emphasized the need for discussions with the city.

“Construction costs aren’t getting any cheaper,” said a Spurs representative. “There’s going to be a lot of unknowns that we don’t know yet, and it’s going to be part of the process and a lot of the conversation that we have in collaboration with the city.”

The Spurs stressed that passing the propositions is their top priority to move the project forward.

Voters will ultimately decide on Props A and B, with early voting running through Oct. 31 and Election Day on Nov. 4.
