Should a developer’s plans come to fruition, a small subdivision will rise at the doorstep of one of metro Atlanta’s most historic and esteemed golf course.

Spencer-Love Homes has filed plans to subdivide one lot into three at 2830 Alston Drive SE in East Lake. That’s a corner site a few yards from the northeast section of East Lake Golf Club, where Hole No. 2 is played.

The .64-acre property today is home to a 1938, four-bedroom cottage with a large front yard, where Alston Drive and Oakridge Avenue meet.

Redevelopment plans are scheduled to come before a Department of City Planning subdivision review committee on Aug. 19, according to signage posted onsite.

Jonathan Rich, of J. Rich Atlanta, a representing agent for Spencer-Love Homes, said it’s early in the process but plans call for one home facing Alston Drive and the other two facing Oakridge Avenue.

No home plans or price ranges have been finalized beyond that, according to Rich.

Spencer-Love Homes, a Marietta-based builder, has completed new single-family homes and duplexes across intown, including a row of five large houses that replaced a church nearby in Kirkwood several years ago.

Listing records indicate the property sold for $797,000 earlier this month—after being listed for as high as $930,000 last summer.

East Lake Golf Club is actively gearing up to host the PGA Tour Championship from Aug. 26 to 30 this year, but recent indications are Atlanta’s oldest golf course won’t be the tournament’s permanent home much longer.

The circa-1904 golf club and its iconic Tudor clubhouse underwent a massive renovation and redesign that wrapped two years ago.
