TAMPA, Fla. — The Hillsborough County School District is working on eight major projects at schools this summer, in it’s seventh year of the voter approved half-cent sales tax to make improvements at public schools.
Hillsborough High School is seeing one of the biggest projects, a $16-million-dollar rebuilding of the entire schools HVAC system.
Principal Dr. Kevin Jordan says contractors started the project back in December, removing air handlers from classrooms to make way for new equipment being installed this summer.
He says the entire system is being rebuilt, from air handlers and mechanical equipment, to piping, roof vents and a relocation of the energy plant that runs the system.
“Being able to reinvest in these buildings with that half cent money that we get, means we will be able to maintain these buildings for years and decades to come,” said Dr. Jordan.
Complete date of the HVAC project at Hillsborough High is set for the end of July.
All projects at Hillsborough County Schools over the summer will be complete by August, when the new school year begins.
