In the era after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. was built in north Phoenix, the announcement of a new semiconductor-related business in Glendale — or anywhere in the West Valley for that matter — is not a surprise.
But the location of the new Taiwan-based Gudeng Precision Industrial Co. flagship U.S. manufacturing facility is a bit of a departure.
The 12,000-square-foot semiconductor and aircraft and aerospace component manufacturing plant is not in Glendale’s westernmost reaches along the Loop 303 industrial corridor. Instead, Gudeng had its grand opening Oct. 6 a few hundred feet from the city’s eastern border at 5260 W. Phelps Road, just south of Bell Road.
