A buzzy Austin suburb is transforming into a premier Central Texas shopping destination as big box retailers like Costco Wholesale and Target continue setting up shop in town.
Located approximately 34 miles north of the Texas capital is Liberty Hill, a tiny Texas town that’s turned major heads in recent years as new industry and commerce flood the Central Texas community. This year alone, Liberty Hill has welcomed its inaugural Costco Wholesale warehouse, and is gearing up for the debut of a massive Target next month.

Here’s a look at the major projects that have or will be debuting in Liberty Hill in the near future.
Texans wait hours to shop at $62M Costco
Costco rang in its grand opening in Liberty Hill on March 11, hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony that attracted hundreds of residents. Some arrived as early as 5 a.m. and waited three hours for the store to open to experience shopping it opening day.
“This is a milestone for us,” Liberty Hill Mayor Crystal Mancilla said at the grand opening. “To have someone that’s nationally known like a Costco…all the jobs that they’re going to be bringing and how they give back, what an absolute blessing this is going to be to Liberty Hill and its future.”

Located at 595 U.S. Hwy. 183, Liberty Hill, TX 7864, construction on the 160,000-square-foot project began in May 2025 before opening 10 months later. Prior to its debut, the closest Costco to Liberty Hill was located in the fellow North Austin suburb of Cedar Park, approximately 15 miles away.

Target teases debut in tiny Texas town
Central Texans will soon have a new shopping destinations for all things retail, groceries, pharmaceutical needs and more when Target celebrates its grand opening in Liberty Hill. Target officials confirmed to MySA the city’s first-ever Target will officially open on October 11 at 351 N. U.S. Hwy. 183, Liberty Hill, TX 78642. The store is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to the city as well as improve access to everyday essentials.

Included in the 148,000-square-foot store is a Starbucks Cafe, a CVS Pharmacy, an Apple section, alcoholic beverage selections, “food forward” grocery and shopping items alongside electric vehicle charging stations, Drive-Up, Order Pickup and same-day delivery services.
Once open, Liberty Hill’s Target will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
Savings await in Liberty Hill courtesy T.J. Maxx, Walmart
Joining the ranks is T.J. Maxx, with the future discount retailer outpost nestled next door to Liberty Hill’s upcoming Target. Located at 353 N. U.S. Hwy. 183, Suite 300, Liberty Hill, TX 78642, the chain is pouring approximately $1 million into the 25,304-square-foot store in the Liberty Hill Crossing Shopping Center.

Construction began back in mid-March, with original project filings estimating work would wrap in mid-August. T.J. Maxx doesn’t list its Liberty Hill store among its upcoming grand openings; MySA reached out for more details on its tentative opening date.
On Monday, September 14, Walmart filed two projects for a supercenter store and an adjacent fuel station at 19699 Ronald W. Reagan Blvd., Liberty Hill, TX 78628. The project calls for an approximately 176,246-square-foot Walmart Supercenter, with a sticker price of approximately $12.2 million for the store and $192,000 for the fuel station.
Under preliminary project estimates, construction is expected to begin in late October and complete work in mid-November 2027.
