Houston, we have a problem.
Team Colorado won three straight games in The Basketball Tournament in a road-like environment over Purple Reign, AfterShocks and Mass Street in Wichita, the Air Capital of the World. But they ran into a buzzsaw in the Space Center.
Forever Coogs, a group of Houston alumni, defeated Team Colorado on its homecourt in the Fertitta Center in the TBT quarterfinals Tuesday night, 74-49.
It was never really a game.
Team Colorado was outscored 22-10 in the first quarter and then 17-9 in the second quarter, leading to a Forever Coogs 20-point lead at halftime. The group of mostly forever Buffs shot just 22.2 percent from the field vs. Forever Coogs’ 48.5 percent shooting in the first half.
Forever Coogs kept it on cruise control in the second half and outscored Team Colorado, 35-30, after intermission. Rob Gray, who was a Super League selection in Turkey this past season, led the group of Houston alumni with 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting.
In the losing effort, Team Colorado was led by Andre Roberson‘s 17 points. Shane Gatling and D’Shawn Schwartz also scored in double digits, contributing 11 and 10 points, respectively.
It was still an entertaining, impressive run orchestrated by Zach Ruebesam and his staff. Team Colorado now has an 11-7 all-time record in the TBT.
