Black Family Hospitality has been hard at work bringing its first San Antonio location of Terry Black’s Barbecue to life, but that’s not all the Texas business is cooking up in the Alamo City. A new construction filing sheds light on another project, a three-story hotel, that will rise next to the upcoming Terry Black’s location.
MySA has been keeping an eye out for Black Family Hospitality’s developments in San Antonio in recent years, first reporting on the group’s expansion in January 2024. At the time, the Austin-based barbecue chain was looking to open multiple restaurants, a hotel, a bathhouse, and a parking garage on Broadway, just a scooch away from the popular Pearl area.
On June 15, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) published a project details page online with more information about Black Family Hospitality’s hotel planned for San Antonio. The page included an estimated cost of $63 million to build the hotel with a completion date listed as June 16, 2028. It also appears to be named “The Mandeville,” which may or may not be the final name once all is said and done.
Madeline Black, brand manager for Black Family Hospitality, shared a comment with MySA about the hotel while the project moves forward along the Broadway corridor.
“The hotel is an exciting project for us, and we’re looking forward to sharing more as it comes together!” Black said in an email. “At the moment, we’re still very much in the construction phase.”
