A Greater Houston wine maker has officially closed its doors for good. Teysha Vineyard in Huntsville is selling all of their equipment after a seven-year run.
In March, Teysha owners Joe and Lynn Zimmerman announced their intention to close April 26. Then in May, the vineyard and tasting room at 577 Dodge Oakhurst Road ran an online closing sale with discounted wines available for pickup and delivery.
“We are so grateful for the community, the friendships, and every moment shared in our tasting room,” Teysha’s announcement read.
Monday, the Zimmermans listed Teysha’s remaining equipment for sale, including their stainless steel tanks and vineyard machinery.
“This is a great opportunity for wineries, vineyards, tasting rooms, and new operations looking for quality equipment at competitive prices,” the Zimmermans wrote in a Facebook post.
The Zimmermans opened Teysha Vineyard in 2019. The name came from the Caddo word for “friend.” (The indigenous Caddo peoples had originally settled in what is now Northeast Texas and parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.) The vineyard grew Blanc du Bois and Lenoir grapes. The website makes mention of other wines in Teysha’s tasting room that were sourced from fruit grown in the Texas High Plains, a wine grape-growing region that encompasses parts of the northwest panhandle and Lubbock..
Teysha was a stop along the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail, a biannual event that covers more than several wineries in Greater Houston, Bryan-College Station, and a few areas outside Austin. The vineyard also became a regular destination for live music and bingo nights Its closure prompted an outpouring of sadness from customers and community members.
“I know it was a tough decision as you have worked tirelessly to make this dream a place for people to go and relax, connect and refuel,” one commenter wrote. “A piece of heaven called TEYSHA Vineyard will soon only be in our best memories, and that is a sad reality.”
Another commenter wrote, “Our community will never be the same without you guys. You have created such a special place that is so unique to this area. You will be greatly missed.”
