How A Superyacht Captain And His Stew Built A Boutique Hotel In Mexico

Federico Martinez Archdale and Ditte Perschke first met on the French Riviera when he was working as a bosun on a yacht during some stormy weather and she was aboard a neighboring vessel. The Acapulco-born Archdale later became a superyacht captain while the Danish Perschke became his chief stew—and eventually his wife. In 2021, the pair left the sea behind to build their own boutique hotel in Mexico’s Baja California Sur. The result is Casa Hygge, a 13-bungalow retreat blending Nordic minimalism with the natural beauty of Baja. “When someone walks into Casa Hygge, I want them to instantly feel like we’ve been expecting them,” says Perschke. “That’s the superyacht training talking—you don’t wait for needs to be voiced, you anticipate them.”

Amtrak’s NextGen Acela Debuts

Amtrak began a new era of American-built train travel this week with the debut of the NextGen Acela, a high-speed rail line between Boston and Washington, D.C. The NextGen Acela is capable of speeds of up to 186 mph, though it will initially run at 160 mph, or about 10 miles per hour faster than the current Acela’s top speed. The new trains feature more seats, expansive windows, greater legroom, and USB ports and power outlets at every seat. With these and other amenities, Amtrak hopes to make the Acela experience closer to the comforts found on European high-speed trains.

The Best Places To Travel In 2026

Each year, the world’s top travel advisors get together at ILTM North America, a luxury travel conference that has become a barometer for the future of travel. Ahead of this year’s conference, veteran Forbes travel writer Laura Begley Bloom polled several advisors to get their early picks for the hottest destinations of 2026. Among the recommendations for next year: Costa Rica, Madrid, Sicily, Palm Beach and Palawan in the Philippines.

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is not aware.”

— Martin Buber

Las Vegas’ Best New Luxury Suites

Las Vegas has the most hotel rooms of any city in the world—more than 154,000—but that doesn’t stop casino resorts from building outrageous new suites for high rollers. The editors of Forbes Travel Guide recently released a list of eight new luxury suites on the Las Vegas Strip with over-the-top amenities, including butler service, private bars, and access to a Rolls-Royce.
