The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluated the best schools across the country, and it turns out that in California, the top school is Whitney High School in Cerritos. It also earned a spot in the national top 20, ranking 16th overall.
The study notes that Whitney High School offers a wide range of honors and Advanced Placement courses, including computer science, physics, and foreign languages. Successfully completing certain honors and AP courses can give students extra weight in the University of California admissions index.
Admission to Whitney is selective, based on state and district test scores as well as class rank, and parents are actively involved through conferences, field trips, and fundraising activities. On top of that, the report highlights the school’s outstanding academic performance, with 96% of students proficient in mathematics, 99% in reading, 97% in science, and a graduation rate of 99%.
