Thomas E. Cirkal passed away on May 28, 2024. He was 79 years old, born in San Antonio, Texas to Leatrice and Elmer Cirkal. Tom grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and attended Arlington Heights High School. He graduated from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas with a degree in Business Administration. While at St. Edward’s he played varsity baseball, as well as intramural sports, was on the Dean’s list, was Student Body President and graduated Valedictorian of his class. He received a Rotary Fellowship and did post graduate work for a year at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. While there he traveled extensively through Europe. He returned to Austin and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law. He practiced law in Denver for 45 years. Tom’s faith was very important to him and he attended Risen Christ Catholic Church. Tom was passionate about sports of all kinds, as a participant and a fan. While in Ireland he began playing Rugby and it became a favorite sport. He was a member of the Denver Harlequins Rugby Club and was president of the club for years. He traveled with the club to play in England, the Bahamas, Australia, Nanaimo, BC and many other places. He was recently elected into the Denver Harlequins Hall of Fame. Tom loved being with his friends and playing sports or attending games. In 1980 Tom and a good friend started an annual event called All Sports Day which is still going on. Once a year they gathered their many friends and spent a day playing golf, softball, other sports and ended with a BBQ. On the 25th anniversary of the event they took it on the road to Reno, Nevada with 50 friends. Tom loved his family and friends and he was loved by them. He was kind, accepting and fun loving. He loved his dogs and enjoyed walks with them. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 53 years, and two nieces, Ashlea Stuart and Amy Stuart, both of Houston, Texas, as well as cousins and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bitsey Stuart. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas in memory of Tom Cirkal (stedwards.edu) or to the charity of your choice in memory of Tom Cirkal.
